Sometimes life gives you simple things to be grateful for. Today, it was our most at-risk students, who helped put together a wonderful “Pink Day” for our school (see my previous posts for details). These boys (there are no girls in this “at-risk” program right now) – worked SO hard to make pink ribbons for our entire staff to wear today. They also made the cancer survivors in our school “goody bags”, filled with candy, an inspiring poem,  and a hand-signed card. As if that isn’t enough – they also made posters (we’re talking full-sized posterboard size posters), painted with a ribbon indicating the type of cancer (pink for breast cancer, blue for thyroid cancer, brown for appendiceal cancer, etc), with the survivor’s name in glitter. There were eight posters hung on the railing above our commons – one for each of the cancer survivors in our school. It was awesome!

Tonight, I just had to come home and make their class a thank you card. Here’s what I came up with:

I just knew I wanted bright colors and something that would let these boys know I care. This card was inspired by one Angie Juda did last summer. These students are the ones who are most at-risk for dropping out, failing, or just need that extra help to succeed. Often, people are quick to label them as “trouble”. However, the looks on their faces when they saw staff members wearing the ribbons they made, or when I was handed that goody bag, really give me hope for these young men. Today may have been the day that helps turn their young lives around! I included an extra-special note inside, to let them know how proud and appreciative I am of their efforts.

Card ingredients:

Stamps: Pick a Petal, Sincere Salutations

Ink: Tangerine Tango, Black Staz-On

CS: Tangerine Tango, Baja Breeze, Whisper White

Accessories: Baja Breeze striped ribbon, silver eyelets, clear embossing powder/heat gun.

Enjoy!
